Milk Project Update : July 2024

I have just returned from my epic road trip across the country where I photographed 10 new wonderful families for my Milk book project with kids ranging in age from 4-7. I had been a bit nervous about this trip and all the driving as I had never driven this much on my own before but it ended up feeling easy and now I feel like I can do pretty much anything!

I also always feel a bit weird leaving my kids but I am so lucky and blessed to have such a supportive family who all encourage me to keep going!

The first day (Saturday) I travelled from my home in Bournemouth to Oxford, to Titchfield, to Chester, to Manchester, then to a random Travelodge off the motorway next to a truck stop in Nottingham for the night. The second day saw me travel down to Gorefield, to Sawtry, to Cambridge, then to Essex and then to Hemel Hampstead before the drive back home! I walked through my door just after 22:00 and snuck my way into bed between my little Forrest & Nixie. I had missed them!

I woke up this morning feeling so excited and happy and really feeling the motivation to keep going and to find more and more people for this project. I now have 35 portraits and am slowly making my way up to my goal of 100 portraits.

The more families I connect with, the more I realise how important this project is! It is so important to make breastfeeding older children more visible in our society so that we can shift the narrative and have it be seen as absolutely normal which it is. Motherhood/parenthood can already feel quite lonely and I don't want anyone's breastfeeding journey of all things to make them feel even more alone.

I will definitely be doing more of these road trips so please spread this project far and wide so I can include more people!!

If you have a nursling aged 4 and over please get in touch with me via this website and FILL OUT THE FORM HERE.
